Let me share this interesting photo that I’ve stumbled upon when I was just starting my Raw Vegan Journey.

I truly find it funny more than annoying and quite entertaining rather than irritating. Haha!

Gone are the days when one assumes that Vegans only eat iceberg lettuce, or just eats salads all day, every day. There’s an abundance of choices out there that even people who eat meat would definitely love – even without knowing they’re Vegan!

Here’s a peek of my adventure at the newest addition to the global luxury empire that is Shangrila. Raw Beauties also need some pampering days as much as we dedicate time for ourselves, with our thoughts and that of this beautiful world that we live in. It’s all about Balance,Raw Beauties. All about that Balanced Life!

Fort Shangrila opened last March – gathering approval and lots of wow’s from both their regulars and new guests alike. Truly, my initial thought was the food. I was curious, as the last time I experienced Shangrila was when our family had a breakfast buffet at Circles Makati – and during that time I completely ate everything – buttered pancakes with loads of syrup, bacon and eggs to all the heavenly croissant and pastries – oh gosh name it! It was that long ago, and I haven’t had a buffet ever since cause I really don’t eat that much in just one sitting most especially when I’ve started a Plant Based Lifestyle. Well, a Raw Beauty Smoothie is a wonderful exception cause I could definitely take in 8oo mL of A Green or a Tropical Fruit Smoothie especially after working out! Teehee! Yes, I’m guilty, babe.

So where were we again? Oh yes, this is the part wherein I’m sharing with you, not only my experience with Buffets once again, but a Guide just in case you decide to eat out at Shangrila’s Hight Street Café. In general, there weren’t many options to choose from and as such, it would be wonderful to see a Vegetarian section to sprout at the Café’s huge Dining Hall. Though I must say, it is filling, I guess, the Chefs and the whole team could definitely do so much better – offering meat free alternatives to guests..Probably they just need someone to ask or request more variety? J Well, that would be me if that’s the case! Haha!

Here are my Top 3 Favorites at the place!

Grilled Pineapple

Grilled Corn cobs, grilled vegetable kabobs, grilled mushroom patties..but grilled pineapples? Seriously, why not? I’m giving this dish/snack a huge thumbs up for such an intriguing and delicious take on this fiber rich fruit. It almost tasted like a Fruit Barbecue and I seriously loved it!

Vietnamese Wrap Gone Vegan

This dish definitely hits all the right spots as I took the first bite. Thus, the randomness of this pic! Haha! I did not even think about taking a photo while eating it!!! I remember I wanted something solid-savoury after munching on a Lettuce Balsamic Vinaigrette salad from the bar and I’m so glad I tried this – without the meat ofcourse! Do not forget to kindly request that when you ask for this dish as they usually put meat on it. J And yes, the sauce is divine. Hmm..this actually gives me an inspiration for my next Kitchen Experiment Day!!! Can’t wait!!!

Giant Baked Potato with Garlic Chips & Chives

My eyes literally lit up as I explored and saw this cheerful young chef with a Potato Stand right beside his station. I remember those days when I used to avoid them..cause they said that if you want to be fit and lean, you must avoid carbs. But my love for everything potato won, as always! as I’ve requested this succulent dish on mah plate. Lady Boss wanted her potatoes, and so she had it! I opted out for the sour cream which I used to have before and went with garlic chips and chives instead. It’s a bit dry if you eat it on its own so I just looked for this white sauce and I seriously couldn’t remember the name – all I know is that it doesn’t have milk on it so I generously dipped my way through with huge potato chunks right straight with a fork.

I did my best really, to find the best dishes that one could have as A Vegan/ Vegetarian at a Buffet setup. They also have salads which components and dressing you could choose from, and I would really love to see more interesting and delish options when I get the chance to go back.

For desserts, it was comforting to see native staple kakanin such as cassava, biko and ube halaya.

The cake spread was a visual feast – and yes, it also ended up as a visual feast overall. Haha! Though a lot of people sell Vegan pastries and cookies nowadays, I still opt to put my culinary experience to practice when I used to dream to be a Pastry Chef( still I do, just a Vegan one right now) and worked for WildFlour Bakery & Café. So expect that you’ll be seeing more Plant Based Pastry (Mis) Adventures here on the Raw Beauty Manila space as a result of my unhealthy cravings gone wild – and yes, gone vegan!

Should you have the chance to experience High Street Café and find new Vegan options for all of us out there, would you pretty please share them here or even tag us on Instagram (@myrawbeautylife_ ) just so we’re all updated?

Sharing is caring, Raw Beauties!

Overall, it was a pleasant experience dining at Shangrila Fort’s High Street Café, yet I believe they could push for more, especially for the planet! haha!

Till our next Raw Beauty Dining Out Adventure!

Much love,

Princess
